Good Mornings for a Tuesday (April 9)

Apologies, folks, it’s been a few days. Β Things have been a bit hectic over here. Β Life is keeping me on my toes!

1 Rolling HipsStress + Running = Holly’s IT Bands Need Lots of Love
Thankfully, the ever-faithful foam roller provides!
It’s in my suitcase right now…

2 Drinking ProblemSomeone around here has a drinking problem…
Yep, one of these guys is packed, too.
[One!?! Β Just ONE?!?! Β How will I survive??]

3 Traveling SocksI don’t own any compression socks.
Can I substitute a cheap pair of knee-high socks?
[Answer: Not really.]
I bought these when I was in a knee-high walking boot a few years back.
They’re cute, so I kept them. πŸ™‚
I’m calling them “pseudo-compression” for a long day of travelling.

4 Empty SeatsI love having this view of the two seats next to me on a plane.
There was definitely some napping done!
And now, I’m in transit in Hong Kong.
Thanks for the fast, free wireless, HK!

5 Compliments Police

Sign in the restroom at the Hong Kong airport.
I was totally cool with it, until I got to the bottom part.
The thought of the Hong Kong Police complimenting me…
…while I’m sitting on the toilet…
….is just awkward.

6 Cute boyDon’t get me started on how much I’m gonna miss this guy…

This is a trip that’s been brewing for awhile,
and recently came to fruition.
I’ll be spending a few weeks in Florida with some of my family.
[But don’t worry, they have internet.Β You can’t get rid of meΒ thatΒ easily!]

Anyone else use their compression gear when they fly?

What’s your favorite travel tip for long, multi-flight adventures?

Have any funnies for today?
I’ll be 25 hours into travel next time I get online – I’m going to need a laugh!

Yes..I wear CEP compression socks on long flights…although I’ve never been on a flight THAT long. I have a strange fainting issue on airplanes. Compression socks seem to help. So do drugs πŸ˜‰ Safe travels, Holly!

      Hmmm…perhaps I’ll order myself some CEP while I’m stateside… Very tempting. πŸ™‚

Fainting issues sound scary. If I were you, I’d opt for the drugs, too! And a faithful travel companion! πŸ™‚

Here’s a funny: you know how you noticed that my girls are always wearing bathing suits? Well, today, one of them set a stool on top of a bench and sat on it. I asked her what she was doing and she told me she was a lifeguard. πŸ™‚

So cute! Did you give your a whistle?

[For your sanity, I certainly hope not!]

Tip for long flights: Benadryl (for sleeping :-)) and layers (airplanes turn me into Goldilocks- too hot, too cold). Also, I broke down and got a Kindle, which means lots of books in not so much weight!

    • Holly KN April 10, 2013 at 1:22 pm - Reply

YES. I was flying from one hot climate to another. I still brought 2 extra shirts and a jacket on the plane. Especially if you sit in the exit row…

Also rocked the Kindle. I don’t use it much at home – but it’s totally worth it for travel!

Just seeing you with that foam roller is making me realize I need to go get mine right after posting this comment…my IT bands need some love, too!

Yes, I am big on wearing compression socks when I fly. It may be just mental but I swear it makes a difference. I’m heading to Boston on Friday and you can bet I’ll be sporting my bright pink compression socks on the plane. πŸ™‚

Here’s my funny for the day: Hubby took the girls (ages 2.5 and 4) to the pool and as they were changing clothes, the younger one looked at my naked hubby and asked “Daddy, what are those big, round plum-like things?” (For the record, I wasn’t there so I can’t confirm she referred to them as “big”. Ha!)

On Friday, I suspect you’ll be in good compression-company! πŸ™‚

BAHAHAHA. I definitely just busted out laughing at that. Well played, Younger One! πŸ˜‰

Good idea! I’ll definitely wear my compression socks when I fly to Eugene in a couple of weeks. A funny… hmm… ok, here’s one! At least I think it’s funny πŸ˜‰ On Saturday I crewed/paced for my good friend’s first 50 miler. After the (totally-awesome-super-cool) race we were all telling stories from the day and my friend’s son said he heard a guy say, as he was passing through the mile 40 aid station, “I’m sharting with every step I take!” Lol πŸ˜€

Doh. That’s somewhere between funny, and TMI. Probably depends on whether I was in front, or behind, him… πŸ™‚

Yay you are going back to the US! Have a wonderful time with your family! I LOVE traveling, but I HATTEEEE flying. I am way too fidgety and cannot sit still that long. I’m all about a good book (I use my Nook) and taking full advantage of the movie selections. To get me on track for the new timezone, I also zap myself out with some tylenol PM whenever it’s supposed to be “bed time” wherever I’m flying to.

Thankfully (?) I usually run enough of a sleep deficit that going to sleep isn’t a problem. [She writes, at 1:20 AM, local time…] It’s the mid-afternoon sleepies that are a KILLER.

I try to get an aisle seat (Frequent Flyer Status helps a LOT) and take frequent walk breaks…don’t usually do a lot of movies, but I did this time. The flight I was on had quite a hilarious selection of classics, spanning several decades…

I LOVE my compression socks. Somehow when the 3 got in front of my age, I can’t seem to get on a plane with a 24 hour window of an 8+ mile run without my leg swelling like tree trunks πŸ™

    • Holly KN April 10, 2013 at 1:27 pm - Reply

Bizarre. How are your ninja yoga moves? Maybe you could just pop your feet up over your head? πŸ˜‰

  8. Debbie @ Deb Runs... April 10, 2013 at 1:18 am - Reply

I wish I’d worn compression socks on my flight to Italy. When I got there my feet were swollen and my new shoes were stretched out. Now whenever I wear them, I think of my wonderful trip! πŸ™‚

Nothing funny here… but this morning I heard a loud BOOM on my dining room window and when I ran outside I saw a robin standing on the ground panting like a dog. He was quite stunned and it took him a while to get his composure back and fly away. I’m thankful that I didn’t have to give him mouth-to-beak CPR!

    Have a safe trip!

    • Holly KN April 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm - Reply

Well…if the shoes serve as a good reminder, maybe it wasn’t SUCH a bad thing? πŸ˜‰

WHOA. Close call for the robin. Good thing there weren’t any hungry predators lurking! And as for the CPR…do they make a mask for that? πŸ˜‰

So I had a dream last night after reading this that I went to Singapore with my husband on a business trip and I was like “I’m going to find this Holly character and meet her!” And then we did meet and you were like “I’m going to show you all around, we’ll have so much fun!” I was so excited, came home, told my husband and then checked your blog to see that you were leaving and you got me all excited for nothing. Totally random and I obviously shouldn’t read blogs before bed πŸ˜‰ Safe travels!

    • Holly KN April 13, 2013 at 12:06 pm - Reply

Hahaha!!! That’s awesome. Good to know your dreams think I’m awesome. πŸ˜‰

And never fear! Unless that business trip is planned for a few select weeks, I’ll happily show you (and Caroline) all over the island…zoo, safari, art, botanic gardens, ethnic centers, shopping, and – OF COURSE – lots of eating. LOTS. OF. EATING!! =)

omg, safe travels!! have so much fun and try not to miss him too much. πŸ™‚
haha…u should start the argyle compression print trend. πŸ˜‰ oh, and i’m super proud u were getting ur foam roller on!

    • Holly KN April 26, 2013 at 12:37 pm - Reply

Exactly. No reason not to look cute while compressing… πŸ™‚

I think ProCompression has one or two argyle patterns available at a time, but I say: The more, the merrier!
