East Coast Shenanigans: Wedding Edition

Pretty soon, you’re all going to start (or already have started) thinking that the USA is a Black Hole of Blogging for me.  When I was here in April, things went radio-silent for two weeks.  And after I landed on Monday, I got quiet yet again.  But this time, I was busy preparing for big celebrations!

Over the past few days, I have procured party shoes:

There are just no words for this train wreck.

There are just no words for this train wreck.

I traveled south to Maryland with my parents, and we enjoyed a few days of intensive preparations.  I found my quality relaxing/calming/planning time on the Georgetown Branch Trail:

I know, I know - it's just a trail. But my husband and I ran on in it early in our relationship.

I know, I know – it’s just a trail. But the weather was clear, and cooler than in Singapore, and I was wearing my running sneakers!!

Then this morning, after some double-digit miles, I refueled (from the run) and fueled (for the rest of the day) with some pancakes:

Confession: These were Mom's. But my banana pancakes were not as photogenic (the banana was in the batter).

Confession: These were Mom’s. But my banana pancakes were not as photogenic (the banana was in the batter).

Then, just this very evening, I got to watch my little sister marry her best friend.

I have a brand new brother-in-law, folks!!!!!

All together now: awwww!  Yeah, seriously.  They’re adorable, and a great match for each other, and all those mushy things.

Now, my sis is a pretty private person, so I can’t really fill my next three posts with lots of wedding photos (plus, I took absolutely zero photos of the event, and besides that’s not *quite* what I like to blog about).  And even though she’s not used to selfies (clearly NOT a blogger!), she agreed that I could include this one:

S&H

Sisters? Nah! 😉

Congratulations, S & B!  I’m thrilled to have just acquired a brother, and you two just make a great team.  I can’t wait to see where you take your future.  Cheers!

[Never fear: Regularly scheduled blog posts will return next week.  But right now, I’m off to sleep, rest my high heel wearing feet, and let my cortisol and endorphin levels return to normal.]

What’s your favorite part of a wedding (or do you hate weddings)?

You did not purchase the train wreck did you? I definitely take my wedding shoes off once the reception party begins!

Bahahaha! Heck no. But I *did* purchase a pair of shoes – and took photos of a bunch of hilarious no-gos. In my head, I was writing a post about it – but life got crazy and the post didn’t happen. But plastic pink flats with a ginormous bow…aren’t up my alley. 🙂

Aw! That’s so much fun! Congrats your sister. I personally LOVE weddings and I wish I had the balls to crash them or at least be hired by the bride and groom to get the party started at the reception. Best part of a wedding: open bar and music. Oh and two people being in love and devoting their life to one another, blah, blah, blah 😉

    • Holly KN July 2, 2013 at 9:27 am - Reply

They didn’t really need anyone to help get the party started (our family is quite champion at that), but if you were in the area, you would have been welcome for the bar and dancing. 😉

Wow those shoes are….. something 🙂 They remind me of the ones the girl wears in Bend It Like Beckham. Looks like a fun time! You are your sister look soooo much alike! Y’all could be twins.

My favorite part of weddings is the dancing!

Oh, and dancing there was! 🙂

And you should see us when my hair is long. Super-twinning.

I love weddings!!! Sounds like an amazing time!!! Enjoy your time in the States and don’t worry about blogging less! 🙂

Thanks! I still suffer from blog-associated guilt sometimes. 🙂 But when I started, I vowed not to let blogging get in the way of actually living, so that’s what I’m striving for.

It was a fantastic time – and my sister and her husband had the day they wanted – the most important part! 🙂

We have parallel lives (I’m sure we’ve discussed this). My younger sister is getting married this weekend, she’s a mini-me, I am looking forward/ not looking forward to the high heels, and I have no words for that sartorial trainwreck with the giant pink bow on either.

Not sure there’ll be that much dancing (it’s a Chinese wedding in Singapore after all) but the best part of a wedding is how happy everyone is for the couple. It sounds cheesy, but everyone just basks in this glow of love and affection…

    • Holly KN July 2, 2013 at 9:32 am - Reply

*gasp* You didn’t like my shoe selection!?!?

      (kidding)

Yes, some combination of KMN and I (mostly me) is parallel to your life. And although the “happy for the couple” is the most important, it’s a shame there’s no dancing at Chinese weddings. I’ve thought this about every Chinapore wedding we’ve attended thus far.

I saw that pic and thought, wow she has “an interesting” taste in shoes. But then I realized you didn’t buy them! Ha!

    Congrats to your sister!

HAHAHA. Just wanted to keep you on your toes. 😉

      • Grace July 2, 2013 at 2:55 pm - Reply

No, high heels would keep you on your toes. These just leave you flat-footed. /runs away

  7. Aww 🙂 You and your sis look so much alike. Best of everything to her 🙂

I’ve never been to a wedding but I’m sure all of the dancing would be fun 🙂 Please don’t tell me you danced in high heels 😛

Don’t worry – it’ll start happening soon. You’re just about that “that age”. I think it started for us about 2-3 years after college, and things are just now starting to taper off. [Now, it’s babies!babies!babies!]

Yes, the dancing rocks. I did dance in my heels, which were actually quite modest on the day of the wedding. [The same could not be said for the shoes I wore out for the bachelorette party!]

Hahah — are those shoes plastic? so funny that you took pics of the shoes you thought were rediculous. 🙂

Glad you had fun at your sister’s wedding! I love weddings. So fun to celebrate great people.

    • Holly KN July 2, 2013 at 9:38 am - Reply

YES. They are plastic. Great for puddle jumping…except for the ‘pink’ part…

And YES again. Celebrations, family, fun, dancing, what more did we need? 🙂

You had some pretty good weather for this area for June, especially the early mornings!

It sounds like you are having a great time! Enjoy, and don’t worry about us. We’ll be here when you finish having fun with your family! 🙂

    • Holly KN July 2, 2013 at 9:50 pm - Reply

Yep – a little humid, but nothing we’re not used to! And for all the really humid days we had, that ended with afternoon/evening rain – the day of the wedding was low-humidity and rain-free. The girls in my family are now 2 for 2 on gorgeous wedding days!

Congrats to your sister, and congrats to you on gaining a brother. What a wonderful day! I hope you’ve been enjoying your time state-side. Looks like you have been!

Absolutely! Only wish there were enough time to venture a bit south in NJ; would’ve loved a guided tour of some Princeton trails with you! 🙂

Size 6?! For whatever reason, I always assumed you were, like, 8 feet tall with size 10 feet. Totally wrong!

I’ve actually only been to a couple of weddings (my friends need to hurry up and get married already so I can go to some fun parties!), so I don’t know what my favorite part is. The after-after party?

      Oh, you flatter me.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, as it provides a more stable base), that’s a Size 9.

And I’m only nearly 6 feet tall. 😉

Those are pretty hideous shoes, ha.

I generally love weddings…but I’ve really only been to my best friends’ weddings so far, so that’s probably why. My favorite part? Open bar, ha. And being with all of my friends to celebrate love! =)

    • Holly KN July 18, 2013 at 10:06 am - Reply

I definitely enjoy the chance to catch up with friends/family who only gather for weddings (and funerals) – having a reason to celebrate rocks! 🙂
